BOB ROSS REMIX

Following up on its hugely popular Mister Rogers piece, PBS continues its roll-out of auto-tune mashup 'remixes' starring famous personalities. Here's master oil painter, Bob Ross (October 29, 1942 – July 4, 1995) who made it all look so easy.

Bob Ross is best known as the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, which ran for more than a decade on PBS in the U.S. and Canada.

SO SOON, ANOTHER SWEATHOG IS GONE

After losing Robert Hegyes (Juan Epstein) on January 26 at the age of 60, Ron Palillo (Arnold Horshack) of Welcome Back, Kotter is now gone too. He was 63.

What you might not have known is that Ron had recently returned to school himself, and was an acting teacher at the famed charter school in West Palm Beach, the G Star High School. He moved to Florida from New York three years ago. His classes were to resume there next week.

FILM SCHOOL IN TWO PARTS

While the title might seem an over-simplification, here's nearly a hour long documentary on the making of Matchstick Men with Nicolas Cage. In my estimation it's required viewing for anyone seeking to understand the complete process of filmmaking.

Follow renowned director Ridley Scott from pre-production, to casting, location scouting, costuming, and production.

This is a gem of an upload, well worth saving to your drive. I have.

MEL STUART, DIRECTOR OF WILLY WONKA, DIES AT 83

We've all got our favorite parts, lines and memories of the classic film. A couple memories of mine
are that I'd read the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a kid in the late sixites. It was one
of my Book-of-the-month Club selections. So the movie really meant something when it came out. The
other is that Denise Nickerson (Violet) went to Rhodes School in Manhattan with my brother and I in
1971. Russell dated her.

But what probably connects most for me is that I've also been lucky enough to live, work and play in a world of pure imagination; a rare and blessed gift.

Thanks Mel, for translating Roald Dahl's wondrous story into a film that shows innocence, honesty and
a pure heart do matter.

THE SOUND AND MUSIC OF THE DARK NIGHT RISES

For me, just hearing and watching Hans Zimmer (the Miami Vice composer) was the greatest thrill. The man's a legend:

The Lion King
Driving Miss Daisy
Rain Man
Crimson Tide
Gladiator
The Last Samurai
Inception
And yes, The Buggles (he's playing keys in MTV's first video!)

Soak it up.
